We develop new technologies for learning, but also the underlying software technology necessary to further optimise the learning experience and learning environment.
Digital tools are increasingly relevant in education and training. They provide an opportunity for an interactive and personalized experience when acquiring new skills; thus supporting not only a deeper understanding of a subject, but also tailoring the learning process to the needs of individual students.

The following definition was approved by the IFSW General Meeting and the IASSW General Assembly in July 2014:
“Social work is a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversities are central to social work. Underpinned by theories of social work, social sciences, humanities and indigenous knowledge, social work engages people and structures to address life challenges and enhance wellbeing.

The practice of social work is very difficult to define. Social work, unlike medicine for example, is not a clearly defined technical profession based on scientific knowledge directly applied in practice. Social work practice is beset by uncertainties about the nature and relevance of much information and about theories relating particularly to individual welfare and community development in a complicated society. It is misleading to refer to the social work task because social workers have many tasks, and it is not clear that social work can be identified as an activity, as teaching or nursing can. In practice social workers have a number of functions in the social services, and they deal with various problems which are experienced by different kinds of individuals and groups. Society (including many social groups from the legislature, the judiciary, and groups of citizens representing various interests) expects social workers to be both caring and controlling, but there are different views about the weighting to be given to the two in different situations.

The Faculty of English, University of Cambridge, has been the home to some of the most eminent critics, scholars, teachers and writers of English Literature. The new English Faculty is part of our wider masterplan for the university’s Sidgwick arts and humanities campus. Erin Cohn Curtis was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom in March 2020 to serve as CalEPA’s Deputy Secretary for External Affairs and Communications. Prior to this appointment and since 2009, Curtis worked in communications and external affairs in the U.S. Department of the Interior, most recently as Assistant Regional Director for External Affairs for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s Pacific Southwest Region. She spent 2 1/2 years as Public Affairs Officer for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s Mid-Pacific Region, and held top communications positions for the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management in California, Alaska and Idaho. Before federal service, Curtis was Associate Vice Chancellor for External Affairs and Educational Services for the Coast Community College District in Orange County.
Curtis attended American River College, holds a bachelor’s degree in Government/Journalism from California State University, Sacramento and a master’s in Public Administration from California State University, Long Beach. She started her career as a newspaper and radio journalist in the Sacramento area.
